As a foreign language institute for training interdisciplinary and applied professionals, College of Foreign Languages (CFL) integrates normal education with comprehensive education, and shoulders the task for college foreign language teaching of Yanbian University. Since its establishment in 2003, CFL has accumulated a wealth of teaching experience by improving its teaching facilities, upgrading its levels of school running and optimizing its faculty structure. To meet the demand of society and exploit its bilingual advantages, CFL has set up a multilingual specialty. In the course of teaching practice, CFL has integrated specialized courses for foreign language majors with those courses for economics, trade and tourism majors, in order to train trans-cultural, interdisciplinary and applied foreign language talents. The college has for its motto “Virtue and Erudition; Diversity and Integration; Practice and Persistence”. CFL has 7 specialties and Department of College Foreign Language Teaching and Research. These specialties include English Education, English Language and Literature, English for Multilingual Students, Japanese Language and Culture, Integrated Japanese, Business Japanese and Russian. It offers a Doctor’s and Master’s Degree program for English language and literature, a Master’s Degree program for linguistics and applied linguistics, a Master’s Degree program for Japanese language and literature, and a professional degree program for Master of Disciplinary Education (the English language). CFL has 169 full-time teachers, among whom 10 are professors, 62 associate professors and 86 lecturers. 128 of them hold a Master’s Degree and 24 of them a Doctor’s Degree. It has 813 undergraduates, 107 postgraduates and 2 doctoral candidates.
